About me
My walks and talks
What's on in West Sussex
|
Time
permitting, I am usually willing to give a talk or lead a walk on any
aspect of local geology.
Each year, I maintain a rolling series of events as listed in my Current programme. This currently
runs at about 20 to 25 events per year, so early booking is desirable for me
to fit it around family and work commitments. I am happy to discuss
expenses.
My local walks and field trips currently include:
- Geology and/or fossil hunts at Bracklesham (on the beach).
The first public fossil hunt was for Chichester District Museum in 1985
and these have been running ever since, usually twice annually due to demand.
- Geology of Bognor Regis (on the beach)
- Geology of Chichester Harbour
- The South Downs - geology and landscape formation
- West Sussex coastal plain - geology and landscape
- Geological highlights of West Sussex - our Sites of Special Scientific Interest
- Geology and building stones of West Sussex churches
- Geology and building stones of Chichester
Please note that the foreshore geology at Bognor and Bracklesham (in
particular) require decent low tides. The need to combine low tide with
daylight and convenient times for field trips usually means that there
are only a few usable weekends in the year. These dates get booked up
very
quickly! Be warned! I have tidal prediction software, so I can book up
for future years (subject to confirmation nearer the time).
Please see Current Programme for my list of events.
I am on the Geologists’ Association list
of speakers for the following subjects, but I will give anything a go
(and have done, within reason):
- Mud, sand & fossils – the Palaeogene geology of West Sussex
- On the Rocks – the London Clay of Bognor Regis
- Sharks & shells – the geology & fossils of Bracklesham Bay
- Geology and landscape of the South Downs & West Sussex coastal plain
- Church rocks – the building stones of West Sussex churches
- Lavant stone - a medieval building stone detective story
